How to Clean and Care for Your Color Contacts

Your color contacts are only as good as the care you give them. The routine is simple, it just depends on which type you're wearing.

Daily Disposables: The No-Fuss Option

Daily lenses are the low-maintenance choice. Wear them once, take them out, throw them away. No solution, no case, no cleaning routine required.

That said, "no cleaning" doesn't mean "no care." A few rules still apply:

  • Wash and dry your hands before putting lenses in or taking them out
  • Never reuse a daily lens, even if it "still looks fine"
  • Never top up or rinse a daily lens with water, saliva, or anything other than sterile contact lens solution if needed

Reusable Lenses: The Routine That Matters

Reusable lenses give you more wear per pair, but they come with a real responsibility: a proper cleaning and storage routine every single day.

  • Clean your lenses with fresh multipurpose solution every time you take them out, even if you're putting them straight back in later
  • Store lenses in a clean case filled with fresh solution, never reused or topped up from the day before
  • Rinse and air-dry your case daily, and replace the case itself every one to three months
  • Planned replacement as directed by your eye care professional

Rules That Apply to Any Lens

  • Always wash your hands before touching your lenses
  • Take lenses out before sleeping, showering, or swimming, unless a product is specifically approved for it
  • Never use tap water, saliva, or homemade solutions on your lenses. Ever
  • If a lens feels uncomfortable, looks damaged, or your vision changes, take it out

Signs You Should See a Doctor

Redness, pain, unusual discharge, or sudden changes in vision aren't things to wait out. Take your lenses out and see an eye care professional as soon as you can. Most lens-related issues are avoidable with good habits, but if something feels off, it's always worth getting checked.

Good habits take seconds and they're the difference between contacts that feel great and problems you don't want. Look after your lenses, and they'll look after your eyes.
